I was amongst the Best of the Best Athletes in Florida, and I won a college scholarship for an essay I had to prepare in 15 minutes, which I relayed how unlike the other athletes, I have to work extra, extra hard to see (because I’m visually challenged), to perform the choreographed routines and land in the right spots and how difficult it is for me to determine the spacing to the floor when I’m performing roll-offs and backflips. The judges literally came to me at the awards banquet and expressed their admiration for me, what I wrote, and my determination stating they didn’t realize how difficult things were for me because I made it seem so easy during practice and game day (Imagine that)! While I only had 5 days to get rigorous stunts, over 80 cheers, and band dances for the game, I never complained and practiced after school until late night until I had every routine down.
