Volunteer types

Facilitator / Group Leader

The Facilitator or Group Leader Volunteer helps guide conference attendees during social events and off-site activities by serving as a friendly point of contact and helping ensure the experience runs smoothly. In this role, the volunteer welcomes participants, provides brief instructions or schedules, leads the group to and from activity locations, and helps keep the group organized and on time. The facilitator encourages positive interaction among attendees, answers basic questions, and communicates with event staff if assistance is needed. This position requires strong communication skills, a welcoming attitude, and the ability to confidently guide and support a group in a social, engaging environment.

Transportation Line Volunteer

The Transportation Line Volunteer assists with coordinating the safe and organized departure of conference attendees to various off-site events. In this role, the volunteer helps direct participants to the correct bus loading area, organizes groups into orderly lines, and communicates boarding instructions to ensure an efficient and smooth process. The volunteer works closely with event staff and transportation coordinators to answer questions, maintain clear pathways, and help attendees board buses safely and on schedule. This position requires strong communication skills, a friendly attitude, and the ability to manage small groups of people in a busy event environment. Some volunteer positions may be at the hotel or off site location.

General Help / Gofer

The General Help / Gofer Volunteer provides flexible support to ensure conference sessions and social events run smoothly. In this role, the volunteer assists with setting up and taking down materials, arranging rooms, distributing supplies, and helping presenters or event staff as needed. They may also help greet attendees, direct participants to locations, and respond to small logistical needs that arise during sessions or activities. This position requires a helpful attitude, reliability, and a willingness to step in wherever assistance is needed to support a positive conference experience for all attendees.

Trivia Hype Person

The Trivia Hype Person is responsible for bringing energy and excitement to the trivia event by engaging the audience before and between trivia rounds. This volunteer helps warm up the crowd, encourages participation, and keeps the atmosphere lively by leading short, fun games, quick challenges, or audience interactions during breaks in gameplay. They may also help announce upcoming rounds, celebrate team successes, and motivate attendees to stay engaged throughout the event. This role is ideal for someone who is outgoing, enthusiastic, comfortable speaking in front of groups, and enjoys creating a fun and inclusive environment for participants.

Trivia Scoring Volunteer

The Trivia Scorer is responsible for collecting team answer sheets, reviewing responses, and accurately scoring each round of the trivia competition. This volunteer works closely with the trivia host and event staff to quickly check answers, total points, and record scores so results can be announced promptly between rounds. Because the game moves at a relatively fast pace, the scorer must be able to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and organization. This position requires good functional vision, as volunteers must be able to read a variety of handwritten answers on paper in dim or low-light conditions typical of trivia or social event settings. The role is best suited for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a lively environment, and able to keep up with the timing and energy of a fast-paced trivia game and its late night schedule.
