Meet NOAH Couples 2024!

“Nick and I met during the 2012 St. Louis Conference–we were both first timers. We reconnected before the 2014 San Diego Conference and stayed in contact. Nick likes to say I “Facebook trapped” him into a relationship in early 2015. We handled a long distance relationship until Nick moved to Ohio from California in 2016. We officially became “The Smith’s” in October 2020 and bought our first home just a few months later. We hope that someday soon we will have our own little family like many of our friends with and without Albinism.”

“The past two years have continued to bring more happiness into our lives. Cory and I tied the knot in April 2022, of course with a medieval fantasy style! In 2023 we packed up and moved to Oregon. The Pacific Northwest has been our goal for many years and we’re so happy to be out here. I love the colder beaches and the breathtaking scenery.
2024 continues to bring more excitement into our lives as we’re expecting! We’ll be welcoming a baby in August of this year and we couldn’t be more excited.”
– Megan
“Hey NOAH! My husband, John, and I met on Facebook Dating on April 9th 2022. We had talked almost everyday on Facebook Messenger for about two months. We had the same main life goals and so much in common. We knew we had to meet in person soon. Then on June 18th we had our first date at Panda Express. We were both a little nervous, but we were so excited to finally meet. We went to the park and walked there together and talked for a long time. Then we went to the mall and after that we went to Cold Stone Creamery and ended the day with ice cream. We had so much fun and enjoyed each other’s company so much. Almost every Saturday after that we had a date. On August 21st 2022 we began our boyfriend/girlfriend relationship and made it official. We lived almost three hours away from each other. Due to my albinism, I can’t drive, so John drove three hours to and from my home to pick me up for dates and then drop me back off. He proved his commitment to me in so many ways, but the fact that he would travel such a long distance for me weekly really showed me his love and devotion. On November 12, 2022 we got engaged. Then on January 7th 2023 we married and began our happily ever after. Our love story is miraculous and truly special. John is a loving, faithful, and hardworking husband. From the beginning, I told John about my albinism and was open with him. He immediately accepted me for who I was. He told me that he wasn’t interested in me for my eyes, but for my heart. From the first date, he has always thought of ways to help me navigate things that are difficult due to my low vision. He is always looking out for me and is extremely helpful, but he also respects me when I want to try something on my own. He often tells me how beautiful I am on the inside and outside. He loves my heart most of all, but he says that my outward beauty always leaves him admiring me too. As a woman with albinism, you can’t ask for more than that in a husband. Happy Valentine’s Day John! I love you! “

“Life has changed in the last three years, but in many ways it hasn’t. Gryphon and I are still happily together. We only really have two noteworthy updates. In October 2021, we brought another cat into the family, and now Kieran has his best bud Finn by his side. And in September 2023 we got married! We had a lovely wedding in my parent’s backyard.”

“I was living in Vietnam writing science fiction and horror novels; she was a university student working on her degree. We met on Vietnam Cupid. Although Trang (Chloe) was only looking for friends, I suspected I’d met the one when I introduced her to The Walking Dead and she said, “This isn’t scary enough.” By the time we watched IT Part II in the second row of the couple’s theater we were well on our way down a path that seemed mapped in the stars. She never expected to date a foreigner, I never expected to get married on the day before Christmas Eve in Vietnam. Now here we are in the suburbs of Chicago trying to set down roots. We’ve battled COVID, endured a yearlong separation due to US immigration, and crossed continents and oceans together. We’ve moved a lot but have never lost our home because home is a feeling we have together. Dreams come true, and I don’t mean the ones where you’re riding naked on a 16-foot giraffe in a high school gymnasium in front of 400 people. The American dream, dreams of travel and exploration, and dreams of finding your other half even if he or she is half a world away. Never give up. We’re living proof, and therefore say, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

Lee & Tim
“Tim and I met as teenagers at one of the first NOAH conferences in Philadelphia. He was the first person I met with albinism my own age. His mom, Pat joined the NOAH board of directors and I was the Youth Advisor to the Board, so I’d see Tim occasionally at meetings and national conferences. We stayed in touch, but didn’t see much of each other during high school and college. We reconnected at the 1994 NOAH conference in Philadelphia, and the rest, as they say, is history. We’ll be married 25 years in September of 2021.”

“Nick and I met through NOAH in 2012. We had a similar friend group at that time as we both attended our first NOAH Conference in St. Louis. We reconnected shortly before the 2014 San Diego conference. I took a plunge and visited CA in late 2014. We became a couple in early 2015 and did the long distance relationship (OH/CA). Several cross country flights happened from early 2015 to mid 2016. Nick moved to OH in 2016 following Graduate School. We were married in October 2020 and recently bought our first home!”

Rita & Kenneth
“Was getting kicked out of my house a bad thing?
I thought so.
It was a hot summer and moving was challenging because I don’t drive, but a friend asked her uncle to help since he had a pickup. Guess what? Her uncle eventually became my husband.
Kenneth and I both have strong personalities, so it took time for us to find healthy ways of working together, but we make a great team!
So, try to keep an open mind, even when circumstances seem bad. There may be something, or someone, good in store. ”

Megan & Cory
“Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who joined Tinder with the intention of trolling and goofing off, because Cory had done just that as well. His pictures were nice, I mostly swiped right because of a picture of him with a cat, but I was a little apprehensive about the last picture, his face photoshopped onto a bird. My profile stated that I was a Viking shield maiden looking for a raiding partner. His first message to me wasn’t “hey”, “hello”, or “how you doin”. It was “I hate Vikings. They pillaged my town”. I had met my trolling match, so you could say it was love at first text.
We went on our first date at a local pizza place, after learning that we lived about 2 blocks away from each other. It also turned out that we had gone to high schools in the same school district, so we had never been too far apart for most of our lives.
One date turned into two, then three. He met my cats and they approved! I think his cat approves of me too, but she still occasionally gives me the stink eye. After 9 months of dating, we took a leap of faith and moved together to a new city. And we’ve since flourished! In our personal lives, our hobbies, and our careers. He popped the question on my birthday in 2020, in the rose garden where my parents were married. We are hoping to tie the knot in 2022!
Cory had known about my albinism even before our first date. In his own words now, he says he thought it was “super interesting” and was very curious. He has been wonderful and more helpful than I could have ever hoped. He does most of the driving, reads off far away menus or signs for me, and never complains about pausing the tv so I can get closer to read any text on the screen.
He’s my best friend, and I can’t wait to officially spend the rest of my life with him.
P.S in the picture, you can see that I’ve helped him to embrace the Viking life.”

Katy & Alex
Katy (a PWA) and Alex (not a PWA) met at a disability rights law society meeting at St. John’s University School of Law. They apparently had a really good conversation there because Alex asked Katy on a date not long after. The date was to a fashion law conference, but they did go out to eat after. They’ve been encouraging each other’s love of learning ever since.

Donté & Shelly
“Donté and I became friends after meeting initially on the NOAH weboards as teens. We started dating many years later and recently married in 2019. Our baby girl is now 6 months old
Happy Valentines Day!”
– Shelly
Lee-Anne & Gryphon
“Gryphon and I met in September 2018 but didn’t start dating until July 2019. We had the chance to get to know each other on Tuesday mornings while I was completing a social work internship with adults with developmental disabilities where Gryphon works. (Everything’s cool. He waited until I had finished my placement before asking me out!) We have a lot in common with our passion for social work, and love of gardening, cats, and all things coffee. The last year and a half have been a rollercoaster for me finishing off school, but Gryphon has stayed by my side. We took the leap moving in together at the end of 2020, and we’ve settled in nicely including Gryphon’s cat, Kieran. 🙂 ”

Amy & Cam
“We met in a Music Theory class Winter of 2012 and found we were a match. Still rocking the music together in 2021 we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
